Functional Herbal Medicine and Phytonutrition

In my new book, Functional Herbal Medicine and Phytonutrition, we will explore the synergistic use and health benefits of potent plant compounds, including flavonoids, terpenoids, saikosaponins, polysaccharides, and saponins routinely used for viral respiratory infections.

One purpose of this book is to encourage practitioners to learn to identify the potent plant constituents found in traditional formulas for viral respiratory infections that make them so useful. Practitioners will learn how combining these compounds from traditional herbs, and common foods provide a 3-HIT antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulating effect to decrease the severity of symptoms and speed recovery.

This herbal and dietary approach has been used for centuries yet has only recently been described in phytochemical and epigenetic terms that may even surprise many acupuncturists. We will explore a vast amount of research, including network pharmacology studies, current virtual screening research of individual herbs, clinical and observational research on Chinese herbal formulas, and molecular docking analyses that shine a new light on traditional herbs and their actions. I hope that, given the concise information in this book, integrative practitioners worldwide may help decrease the severity of symptoms and suffering associated with viral respiratory infections that do not require hospitalization.
